This story is only loosely based on true stories. The intention of this story is to show you how your thoughts and feelings about yourself contribute to your success or failure. It is a story about one man, but it is also the story about how many people have gotten rich.

John was gym junky whose only obvious talent was body building. He loved working out and got a lot of pride from the results of his efforts. However, John wanted more out of life than a ‘beach body.’ He didn’t talk about it much, but he had big dreams.

When he wasn’t working out, John worked at the gym. He had a lot of time to read during the quiet times of the day when he wasn’t signing people up for gym memberships or showing them how to use the equipment. John was an avid reader of investing books, because he wanted to learn from the experts how to make money. The fact that he had none didn’t keep him from trying.

One of the things John learned from his books was that nobody ever got seriously rich working for someone else. Entrepreneurs get rich, not employees. He could relate to that. He worked at a gym for a boss who was making serious money off his body building expertise. John decided to start marketing himself and became a personal trainer.

John was so good at what he did and was also good at motivating others. He was so good that he became very successful as a fitness trainer. He started working for modest money, but became so popular that he was able to increase his prices. When he got Hollywood stars and other wealthy clients, he started making real money.

He was able to make enough money, in fact, that he saved enough to make a down payment on property. His books had taught him that real estate was a great way to make big money. He had also observed that while his former employer at the gym made good money, the guy who collected his rent made even better money.

In the course of his reading, John had read about ‘landed property.’ This was property that was rented or leased by the owner to others. He looked around and found a great piece of land in a growing area. Rather than build on it, he just subdivided it and leased the land long term. That way, the people who leased the land would have to pay him every month that they were in business, no matter what happened.

John got rich doing that and then turned his ambitions towards politics. If he had just thought, ‘I’m just a gym junky, ‘ he would not be the man he is today.
